September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Ovarian cancer: it’s time to start talking about it. Not enough people know about this form of cancer and the risks it brings, so it’s time to raise ovarian cancer awareness. According to the ACOG committee opinion on Bilateral Salpingectomies, “ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate out of all types of gynecologic cancers and is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among women. 1” This cancer is now thought to originate in the fallopian tube2, but is often undetected until it spreads throughout the pelvis and abdomen, at which point it is an advanced stage with a lower percentage of 5-year survival. So get informed for a woman you love, whether that’s your wife, mother, sister or friend. Learn what can be done to help. Know the symptoms. Be there for someone. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, so let’s raise awareness this September—and every month—by talking about ovarian cancer. INF-OvarianCancer-Final
